| One of PADI's newest specialty and quickly becoming one of the most popular is the Digital Underwater Photography course. If you enjoy using your camera on land, then you'll love using it underwater. The clear, warm tropical waters of Thailand's Andaman Sea offer the perfect place to take some amazing photos, whether it is a macro shot of a tiger tail seahorse , or a beautiful silhouette photo of a giant Manta Ray cruising over head. The problem with underwater photography had always been the limited number of pictures available to the photographer, coupled with not knowing if the photo had even come out alright. Divers had to wait for each roll of film to be developed before seeing if any of the photos were worth keeping. The development of digital cameras, and the underwater housing that enable them to be utilized underwater have revolutionized underwater photography. The ability to be able to take multiple shots of the same creature, and instantly check them to make sure they are what you wanted is great. With increased memory card capacities and image quality, divers are able to shoot hundreds of pictures and even short movies underwater. The PADI Digital Underwater Photography Specialty course requires two dives and can be completed in one day. The course is accompanied by a manual which the student will use to complete the two required knowledge development sections, which will be reviewed by your PADI instructor. The course is divided into two sections the topics discussed in each are listed below Section One The Digital Revolution Digital Camera's Digital Underwater Camera Systems General Digital Photography The PADI SEA Method Section Two Digital File Format Choosing Image resolution Making your photos lighter or darker Examining and adjusting exposure underwater Digital Underwater Photography Getting sharp pictures underwater Basic Underwater Shooting Composing your photos for maximum effect Basic underwater strobe use After the dive Using built in flash underwater Using external flash underwater During your two dives your instructor will teach you how to set up, test and use your digital camera in a way that gives you the maximum results . The instructor will also teach you about which are the best types of marine life to try and shoot, and which are a bit too camera shy. The course dives can be done at any dive site, with the King Cruiser Wreck and Shark Point offering a great mixture of images and conditions available for the divers. This course is also a popular specialty to take while you are on board at Similan Islands Liveaboard. |
