PADI’s Enriched Air Diver course has fast become their most popular specialty throughout the world, and is a great way for you to be able to extend your bottom times without having to worry about those nasty nitrogen bubbles.

The course in conducted over a two day period, with one day of theory in the classroom, followed by two dives the following day. Enriched air or Nitrox as It is most commonly referred to offers many benefits to the diver, such as, increased bottom times, reduced nitrogen saturation and also feeling less tired after a days diving. This course offers great advantages for divers who want to dive everyday, such as on a liveaboard trip. Like all other PADI courses the training materials you will receive are to the highest standard and are very easy to follow. Your instructor will show you the PADI Enriched Air Diver DVD, before reviewing the nitrox diving tables and oxygen exposure charts. The theory section of the course is concluded by checking your knowledge reviews and completing the Enriched Air Final Exam.

The following day your instructor will accompany you on two boat dives, where students will be shown and then required to test their own enriched air diving cylinders, to confirm their oxygen contents. The two dives are actually just fun dives, with no underwater exercises taking place.

The course is very popular for divers going to the Similan Islands, and courses can be conducted on Phuket before you leave, or on the liveaboard itself. Once completed divers will enjoy extended bottom times, which give you more time to take photos, explore shipwrecks or even to swim side by side with a giant Manta Ray.

Please remember that when you are choosing a place to do your diving course, it is not the center that is important, but the instructor. Many of the large dive centers employ inexperienced instructors, and you want to avoid this at all costs. If you are unsure please ask the center who your instructor will be and ask to see their qualifications. Here at Dive Travel Asia, the instructors that we use have a minimum of 1000 dives, and must have been an instructor for at least 5 years.
