If you are one of these
divers who describe the marine life that you saw on your dive as , " the blue
thing , about this big, " or " it had yellowish strips, I think " then maybe
you should consider increasing your knowledge on the marine environment by
taking the PADI Underwater Naturalist Specialty. The course can be completed in
one day and includes two boat dives, and a knowledge development session with
your instructor.
The course has six main
objectives, which are listed below
1. Planning,
organization, procedures, techniques, problems and hazards associated with
diving in different marine environments.
2. Overview of the
main aquatic life groupings - Kingdoms and phyla.
3. Present
information that dispels only myths regarding potentially dangerous aquatic
life.
4. An overview of
basic aquatic life interactions and associations.
5. How to interact
with aquatic life in a responsible way.
6. Improve diving
techniques to limit damage to marine environment.
Your
instructor will sit down and with the help of a marine life book, guide you
through the species of fish and corals that can be seen on the reefs of the Andaman Sea. This is a great course for anybody
who is interested in the marine environment, and divers, and divers taking this
course here in Thailand will
be spoilt for choice, with locations such as the Similan Islands ,
Koh Phi Phi and Shark Point providing divers with an enormous variety of
aquatic life.
So
if you don't know the difference between a snapper and a parrot fish, or even a
whale shark and manta ray , this really is the course for you !
