Anita’s Reef is located on the western side of Similan Island number 5. The reef consists of a sloping sandy reef with beautiful coral bommies, and reef patches dotted around. Divers will often view sandy patches as being dead and lifeless, whereas these areas are often where some of the best critters can be found. While swimming over the sand keep your eyes open for Khul’s stingrays, Lionfish, Giant sea cucumbers and spotted garden eels. The large coral bommies are covered in vibrant colourful soft corals and sea fans. Each bommie seems to be on entire ecosystem, with the complete cycle of life operating in this small space. Bluefin trevally can be seen marking darting runs in and out school of glass fish , while lionfish and groupers are constantly watching, waiting, for and easy meal. The bommies here are great places to just sit and watch the circle of life, and are a photographer’s paradise.
The scattered coral patches are mainly made of staghorn and table corals, which are home to the beautiful Clown trigger fish and Oriental sweet lips. Other common inhabitants include titan trigger fish, angelfish, puffer fish plus there is always a chance of seeing Green Turtles and Leopard Sharks .
