The limestone island of Bida Nok (Outer Father in Thai), sits just south of its smaller neighbor Bida Nai , and is one of Thailand’s best dive sites. With an underwater topography similar to its neighbor, Bida Nok also comprises three distinctive areas, deep walls, sloping reef and a ridge sloping away from the southern tip of the island.
During usually start their dives in the small bay on the islands southern side, the shallow bay is a great place for an easy descent allowing divers to check out their ears and buoyancy. Jutting out from the left hand side is a beautiful ridge called Finger Reef, covered in a colourful mixture of soft and hard corals, sleeping Leopard Sharks and Khul’s stingrays can often be found lying next to the ridge, while lionfish and scorpion fish hide camouflaged within the corals. As divers round the southern point of the ridge the reef drops away sharply and divers are confronted with a beautiful colourful wall, decorated with sea fans and soft corals.
Moving around to the western side of Bida Nok divers will find dozens of huge limestone boulders scattered around the sea floor, these boulders are covered in soft and hard corals as well as vibrant anemones. This is also a good area for finding Hawksbill Turtles and black tip sharks can also be seen in the shallows.
The eastern portion of the island is where divers can enjoy a beautiful sloping coral reef with sandy patches in between coral outcrops. This area has always been a good place to find stingrays, sharks and turtles. Vast arrays of colourful reef fish are also found in abundance around the whole island.
