| Donald Duck Bay |
|
Donald Duck bay has become the most recognizable locations within the Similan Islands. The bay is located on Similan Island number 8, and is dominated by the large granite boulders that tower over the bay. This got its name due to the fact that one of the granite boulders is shaped like the popular cartoon characters head.
The bay has become a popular overnight stop for Similan Liveaboard’s, and is a great spot for a night dive. Donald Duck Bay is also the most popular spot for daytrip boats, and consequently there is a lot of food, bread and fruit mainly, that finds its way into the water. All this food has led to the resident cephalopods, crustaceans, mollusks and gastropods being well fed, and growing to unusually large sizes. Divers and snorkellers alike are also welcome by several large green turtles that have become used to boats and people and will often swim up to the back of the boats, looking for food scraps. Note: We ask all our divers/snorkelers never to feed any fish or turtles from the boat, it can upset their natural diets and can have a knock on effect on the whole Eco-System.
